Melbourne to Hobart Eastcoaster Yacht Race 2010

Anny organised a great opportunity through Mouse for me to join the Melbourne to Hobart race this year on Chikara Outlaw (Sayer 44) owned and raced by Bill Trueman and Jo Norbury. After nearly 20 years since I crewed in an ocean race in the Southern seas and a sick and cold first night, I bounced back and had a great time. There is 3 great bits of video footage of us coming out through the heads which might explains my cold, sick state and show what real sailing is. We had a tough first day and half, then a great run over night and some sun the next day which gave us a chance to dry some gear, unfortunately that slack weather took away any chance of a handicap win.

Have a look at how the race started and the wild exit out of the Port Phillip heads, here on this you tube link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xn6CgBZXhmY&feature=related The last 7 hours into Hobart were wild on the rail and all we could think about was warmth and dry gear. We crossed the finish line, tied up about 4am and all we could think about was RUM, so we partied on from there and found warmth that way.

Boxing Day Lunch

Nat and his girlfriend (Rochelle) flew done from the Gold Coast to catch up with Anny and they had lunch at Gordan Ramsay’s restaurant in Southbank. John joined them for drinks then left and started making his way to join the MLB-HBT crew at Queenscliff.

Christmas Lunch at Sylvia and Jarrrad’s Home

Sylvia and Jarrad hosted Christmas this year with Clancy making himself at home in Jarrad’s bar. It was nice to be home for a while and have days to catch up with everyone.

Christmas Morning in Australia

Clancy still doesn’t quite get what most kids do at Christmas. He was super excited about presents but still came a cuddled with us in bed and asked if Santa had been, rather than just charging to the tree, not that we’re complaining about that. I am sure next year will be a straight run for the tree and mum and dad will be second.

Christmas Carols in Tonga and Melbourne

We had two Christmas Carols this year, the first in Tonga before we left for holidays, shared with the Tongan King and the second in Melbourne at Carols by Candlelight with Mum and Dad. Anny had wanted to go to Melbourne’s Carols since she was a little girl and Mum had want to go since she came to Australia, so it was a treat for everyone. The photos here are from both events. You may be able to see a difference J. The colour and showmanship of the Carols in Melbourne was fantastic. Every family should do it with their children. Kate Ceberano was the highlight for John.
