Roller Skating

Clancy’s school went roller skating on the last day of term 3. The rink is temporarily opened as the Queen Salote Hall, the town’s major hall for ceremonies and events. They have about 30 pairs of roller and inline skates they rent out. Clancy was all whooooa, weeeee and ouch! He had a great time and did pretty well for the first time.

Sporting Saturday

We had a busy Saturday with a 9km Bike Ride with Pasikala (Bicycle) Nuku’alofa, as part of the Cycle Tonga launch, led by the IUCN. We hadn’t thought about doing it until Friday but had a great ride with about 100 people at 7.30am. Clancy and his friend Mosese climbed a tree. At 2.30pm I joined the Nukualofa to Pangiamoto (Fear no Sharks) Island Swim (1.3km). There was a field of about 30 and I finished 10th with a time of 29:15. That’s me just crossing the finish line at the orange buoy.

Cross Country Run

Today was the cross country run at Clancy's school. They had been training for 4 weeks. Clancy's is in yellow house. There's not many schools in Australia where you can start your cross country run in the front yard of the school, out across the swamp, through the tall grass and past the pigs.

Sports for the Cvetko's

On Saturday the local Triathlon Committee held a half Triathlon, with a 750 meter swim, 25 kilometer bike and 5 km run. I was planing to start swimming on a regular basis so I though I'd have ago at the triathlon. Needless to say, without any training I was very sore and slow by the end. I have been riding the bike a fair bit so that part was OK. While I was doing that, Clancy was at his friend James's house at the New Zealand High Commission compound, getting into a tennis training session and doing very well by all reports. James and his parents are returning to NZ in October and Clancy may take over the training spot. Anny has been attending the local gym to do Pump and Step classes, along with Zumba classes which have started here. She is also riding the bike on the weekends and walking. I have now started swimming (training after the competition!) three mornings a week and along with surfing to get fitter and healthier.
